Take a dash of R. Kelly or Maxwell’s smoothness, a dose or two of Khalid, and mix it all up with Ambition/”Lotus Flower Bomb” era Wale and you have successfully formed what we hear in Berkeley, CA rising star Rexx Life Raj.
A former D1 football player on the blue turf in Boise, Rexx (government: Faraji Omar Wright) has lived it all during his short thirty years of life. Hot off the heels of a European tour in 2018, it was 2019’s “Your Way” featuring Russ and Kehlani, from the album Father Figure 3, that put Rexx on the map of many with a little help from Zane Lowe premiering the track on Beats 1.
With 2020 having put many a careers on hold, Rexx took the time to release some timely singles (see: “Stimulus Check”, “Tesla in a Pandemic”), along with his newest EP, California Poppy 2, which dropped this past Friday. With the trajectory this last year and a half have taken Rexx, it’s only a matter of time before he has an opening slot on a tour for H.E.R. or Bryson Tiller, so hop on now before he is on every playlist and coming through your city and car stereo.
