We’ll keep this relatively short and sweet — but The Backseat Lovers were our biggest miss of 2020. of course “Kilby Girl” was on our radar, but it wasn’t until Q2 ‘21 that we really sat back and gave their debut album When We Were Friends a few proper spins that we realized just what we’d missed. For the better part of spring/summer, we have not been able to let go of spinning the album.
Then we were able to see the Utahns live at Lollapalooza and it all but sealed the deal that a) we had to feature them ASAP before they blew up any more and b) we were witnessing the birth of the next Young the Giant, Bad Suns, or Hippo Campus right before our eyes. If you haven’t, do yourself a favor and pop on “Maple Syrup” or something besides “Kilby Girl” and enjoy it. Mick Management is in on them early, and surely a label isn’t far behind. Album two for these young lads is, supposedly, in the works now.. and I expect nothing short of that album two blow up.
