Callum Beattie

Indie Pop/Rock / Songwriter

Edinburgh, Scotland, UK

Somewhere between the rich divide of Australian indie alt rockers Gang of Youths, the Americana songwriting and vocal cadence of Bruce Springsteen, and the momentary flashes if Irish songwriter Dermot Kennedy falls Scottish songwriter Callum Beattie. Callum’s debut album, 2020’s People Like Us, mixes chamber and pop undertones with a flare of brit pop rock and was a valiant introduction to the songwriters stylings. What really caught our attention, though, was the Gerry Cinnamon-meets-frank turner-meets-Gang of Youths esq debut single from his forthcoming album. That single, “Heart Stops Beating”, is an anthem bursting at the seams for all to hear. The follow up song, “What It Means” skews more on the pop side of things, providing a solid ground for one to wonder what his second full length album will provide. The hunch is a mix somewhere between indie, alternative, and a brit-skewing pop.

Regardless, the strength of “Heart Stops Beating” has us very interested, and on the strength of that alone… Callum is a name to know.
