Grayscale

Alternative / Pop Punk

Philadelphia, Pennsylvania

Grayscale is by no means a “new” band on the scene. The Brotherly Love quintet dropped their first album roughly 7 years ago, and since have amassed much local and national success. From signing with 2000s emo/punk indie label darling Fearless in 2017, touring with Four Years Strong and Hot Mulligan, and releasing multiple full length albums, including their most recent 2021 release, Umbra.

The bands third studio album really saw the band take a major step in who they were and the future outlook of the band. Where ‘19s Nella Vita was a solid, enjoyable listen, the final piece of the puzzle just didn’t feel fully there. In comes Umbra, and the puzzle piece was fully fit. The sound is fluid, the album flowed, and it just felt like the band finally hit stride. The album has a score of songs that are radio ready, and the album just sings of pop punk/ pop rock goodness reminiscent of the early 2000s boom with bands like Jimmy Eat World and The All-American Rejects.

Here’s to hoping 2022 presents Grayscale with a big tour opportunity, hopping on with one of the nostalgia acts making a return or playing an anniversary tour. This album deserves to be eaten up by the mid-30something looking to relive that sound while being OK with discovery.
