If you are familiar with us, you know that our love all things Glassnote is evident. Candidly, we have past experience working with / on behalf of Glassnote in our day-to-day jobs, but that hasn’t been a “thing” in about 5 years. Regardless, give us any and all things Glassnote. In steps the labels newest signee, Ripe.
Hailing from Boston, the eccentric indie-skewing alt band started with more funk layers, evident in their 2018 debut album Joy in the Wild Unknown. Their sound fell somewhere between Squeeze and St. Paul and the Broken Bones, but the album did receive some good love from Huffington Post and saw the band get some festival love, appearing on bills like Firefly and Bonnaroo.
The band, who recently signed their said deal with Glassnote, just dropped the first single off what we assume will be their new album later this year into next. The song, “Settling”, is a feel-good indie burner primed for the summertime feels of strolling down Fort Point. While the sound is more “alt” and “rock” driven their their prior work, the band still layers in some of their funk layer with some horns, not quite abandoning the sound entirely. Verdict is still out on if this is the new direction they are heading as a band or if this was a “welcome” one off, but regardless the one off hit just right and is setting up the band for big summer, fall, and 2023.
