PETEY

Dreampop / Indie Electropop

Detroit, Michigan

When social media and music mix, there is usually something special that comes from it, especially when you groundbreak with it. MySpace had Hellogoodbye, 3OH!3, Attack! Attack!, Purevolume had Mae, City & Colour, YouTube spawned Biebs, Eddy Sheeran, and many more. TikTok has seen its share of successes as well in Lil Nas X, PinkPantheress, Tai Verdes, and most recently Noah Kahan. So how does that bring us to Peter Martin, aka Petey?

Well… when the artists musical career was derailed for a time by covid, Pete and his manager/friend fired up a TikTok page, started making skits, and ultimately parlaying that into pushing the music of Petey. As we sit in Q1 2023, Petey's page has racked up near a million plus followers, a collab with Fred Durst (of Limp Bizkit) and sponsorships, plus two full length albums to date. Both trend on the indie electro-dreampop scope, leaning into moments of 2010 electoindie giants like Passion Pit and Ra Ra Riot, the darkly comical lyrics of Modest Mouse, the modern emo angst of Pinegrove, and the 80s synth of M83 and The Limousines. Or, as I said and stand by: the 2020s Jason Schwartzman / Coconut Records.

Lean Into Life, Petey’s second album, plays onto all the aforementioned comparisons, setting Petey up for a wonderful 2023 and beyond with new music rumored to be on the horizon.
