Wednesday

Indie Rock

Asheville, North Carolina

Affectionally self-deemed “creek rock”, Wednesday has been around the block for a minute. Rat Saw God, their newest album released in April, is their fifth effort and, as Pitchfork kindly bellowed “[the album has] so much writing about the quiet, lonely corners of America spends its time longing to break free, aching for something big to happen.”

However, it feels like RSG is the breakthrough to the mainstream that Wednesday deserves. “Quarry” is a pure banger, fit to stand tall on any indie rock playlist with the likes of boygenius, Soccer Mommy, or labelmate Phoebe Bridgers. The blend of rock with moments of Carolina twang, shoegaze, and fuzzed garage rock guitars over luscious vocals by Karly Hartzman. I wouldn’t be surprised to see the act pulling some big opening slots into 2024, some festival plays, and a lot of clamor from your favorite artists about how Wednesday are one of their current favorite artists.
