Phoebe Bridgers

Indie/Songwriter

Los Angeles, California

The game of trying to find the next big thing and introducing them at the right time is a tough one, and this is one I admittedly should have gotten up months ago. Between her impressive ‘17 debut Stranger in the Alps that got a lot of love in the indie circles to her addicting ‘18 partnership with Lucy Dacus and Julien Baker to form boygenius and ‘19s formation of Better Oblivion Community Center with Bright Eyes icon Conor Oberst, Bridgers has kept herself mighty busy.

But not too busy that she couldn’t record/drop her sophomore album, Punisher, on June 18th. It is an emotionally whipping album in the best way possible. A wild ride punched full of anti-serotonin tracks that will fuck you up and somehow make you feel more alive all at the same time. You can tell by this album that Bridgers grew up a child of the 00’s emo scene (also hence her collab with Oberst and her prior admission of hurt not being considered one now) with influenced-tingled lyrics/tracks like “Garden Song” and “Halloween”, but also with the skew of indie via “Kyoto” and “ICU”.

If you haven’t been following along to this rising star, hop on as the bandwagon takes off. Punisher will be on a lot of end of the year lists, and rightfully so. The songwriter will be gracing stages (hopefully) soon somewhere between House of Blues and Greek Theatre, and on the festival scene in 2021. We’re all living in her world now.
