It’s not often you get to wrap up sci-fi themes and gritty electronic beats into a package delivered to the world of hip-hop, but budding songwriter Dylan Joshua does just that. The Toronto native, a city that has spit out some notable mainstream hip-hop acts like Drake and The Weeknd over the last few decades, skirts away from the “usual” that The 6 has become known for, but his skirting of the norm is what makes this riser noteworthy. His unique, conceptual approach to things is fresh and, at times, a bit foreign. The chilled out aesthetic has led way to Joshua’s second release, hologram°, under his own Alternate label/brand.
Joshua’s 2019 mixtape caught our ear with serious Johnny Rain vibes, with “Solo” being a standout. Then 2020 hit and “8-BIT”, the first single off of the his new album, dropped. As atmospheric as it is groove worthy, Dylan Joshua is poised for something big. The entire EP shines with a lo-fi brilliance that will have the industry swooning and on edge to see what is next on this supersonic journey.
