Austin, Texas’ own Hall Johnson have built somewhat of a indie rock, surf indie vibe in the lone star state that is uniquely fresh. The childhood best friends have toured with the likes of Beach Fossils, and can be described nothing short of road warriors. When the COVID-19 wave of omicron hit it’s peak, the band made a quick pivot and, instead of their west coast tour, the band hit the studio to release their first full length, Haymaker, via The Record Machine. It’s a chill, exploratory sound soaked in indie soaked twists, beachy turns, and a gravel of maturity that doesn’t often come along for such a group of youngsters. While the album itself is a wonderful listen, it’s their 2022 singles that really stuck out to us. “Strangers” being the shining star, but a slow clap for the wonderful sounds of “Trial & Error”, which, for a moment, made us feel like we were listening to some of the earlier work of Hippo Campus.
